Green Day finally release the long awaited follow up to American Idiot!
After an intro track the album opens with 21st Century Breakdown which starts off suprisingly slow but then burts into typical Green Day territory after the 2minute mark! This will defiantly be a live favourite as there is a shout along break coupled with some solid drumming! Recently single Know Your Enemy follows which is okay but the next track ¡Viva la Gloria! should have been the come back single as it is like the Green Day of old, fast and catchy. The remainder of the album is pretty solid but most of it is the same tempo which gets a bit repeative at times. Stand out tracks further on in the album are The Offspring-esque Horseshoes and Handgrenades, The Static Age and the almost ballad of Restless Heart Syndrome which uses instruments and production elements that Green Day have not used before.
Overall it is a good album, not a great one but fans of Green Day will like the faster tracks and the slower more mature tracks will attract people who perhaps were not in to Green Day before.
