On Friday 23 November 2007, the new county council website www.wotson4u.com was launched!
As part of 11 MILLION Takeover Day (where organisations and businesses across the country put young people at the very heart of decision-making) the main launch event took place in Carlisle Library.
This was the first chance for young people to have a look at the website and tell us what they think. Every completed feedback form went into a free prize draw.
Cumbrian bands 'Shore' and Test the Tone' performed at the Carlisle launch. There were information stands from Connexions and the Police. Carlisle United's mascot, Olga the Fox was also there. There were free gifts for everyone who came along to the launches, including t-shirts, pens and keyrings promoting wotson4u.
The Youth Work in Cumbria Partnership and the county council's Children's Information Service are responsible for the website. It's for 13-19 year olds and includes information about lots of different issues that affect young people. It also provides details about activities - from drama clubs to music lessons, sports activities to youth groups, volunteering and lots more!
Some pages on the website will change regularly. There will be book, DVD and music reviews, including a 'local band of the month' section. Reviews can be submitted by young people who can also send in recordings of their music and photos of themselves taking part in activities around the county. The website will try to feature as many as possible.
Other launches of the website took place at Whitehaven Harbour Youth Project, the Drop Zone cafe in Barrow, Ulverston Youth Base, Eden Rural foyer, as well as Connexions centres and youth libraries across the county.
